STERILE TECHNIQUE & SANITATION PROTOCOLS
As an APRN (Advanced Practice RN), Operating Room Nurse and CST-FA (Certified Surgical First Assistant) with 12 years of hospital nursing experience, as well as currently pursuing My Post-Graduate degree as an SRNA (Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist) to ultimately become a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist), I know FIRST HAND what it REALLY takes to maintain a sterile field as well as meticulously cleanse and thoroughly sterilize tools and instruments, and what is needed to properly disinfect specific materials, surfaces, equipment and linens.
All toys, implements and instruments are meticulously cleansed using Cavicide, Betadine, Sporiciden, Citrix 3, Isopropyl Alcohol, Bleach, and other anti-bacterial/anti-viral/anti-fungal agents, then sterilized utilizing Metrex EmPower enzyme pre-soak, rinsed in hot water and finally, placed in the medical grade UV light instrument sterilizer.
Medical implements and Surgical Instruments are sterilized to Hospital Grade Level One Trauma Center Operating Room Standards utilizing sterile processing department-style pre-soak of enzyme cleanser by Metrex, then rinsed in hot water and sterilized via Dry Heat Autoclave with sterile indicator.
All leather and latex is wiped down with the highest quality disinfectants.
All linens and towels used that are not sterile disposables are thoroughly washed using hot water and bleach, then stored in the UV towel sterilizer/warmer.
Sterile, disposable covers are used on all probes, premium nitrile surgical sheaths are used on all insertion tools, and sterile silicone sheaths are used for larger instrumentation. During procedures involving sounding, catheterization, IV insertion, infusions, injections, inflation, piercings, staples, sutures, or any sharps, I practice sterile technique while creating a sterile field, properly washing hands up to the elbows utilizing betadine and drying off ONLY with disposable sterile towels, donning sterile attire with proper PPE with assistance from another practitioner to avoid contaminating the sterile field, using ONLY DISPOSABLE sterile fenestrated sheets, sterile surgical gloves and sterile surgical drapes ALL from pre-sterilized disposable commercial hospital basin kits by top med-surg supplies providers whom SELL EXCLUSIVELY to REAL, LICENSED MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS.
